In West Australia the Royalties for Regions scheme is used to focus on regional development throughout the state. Under the scheme 25 per cent of the state’s mining and onshore petroleum royalties are returned to regional areas as an investment in infrastructure and community services.
However, in Leonora which is home to unarmed illegal boat invaders who are located at the detention centre the improvement of the town’s infrastructure is totally ignored by those on the shire. So, instead of using their Royalties for Regions grant to improve the lives of the community the so-called upper echelon on the shire decided that a bowling club was exactly what the town needed.
